German Basic

This course is designed for exchange students of the OST – Ostschweizer Fachhochschule who have little or no previous knowledge of German. The course aims to provide you with a basic knowledge of German in order to enable you to find your way in a German-speaking environment and to make your stay in St. Gallen a success.
The course covers the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing on a basic level. Focus will be on communicative skills as well as on grammatical structures and vocabulary. Topics include every day’s life and issues. Referring to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) this course offers the necessary basis leading to Level A1.1.

Topic area II: «Die Schweiz» (Switzerland)
• geographie (Switzerland, neighbouring countries)
• numbers 20–100 / 100–1'000'000
• alphabet
• grammar: capital letters, nouns – verbs – adjectives
Topic area III: «Leute in der Schweiz» (people in Switzerland)
• informations about a person (name, job, city, language skills … )
• the time (opening times … )
• work and jobs
• grammar: personal nouns and verbs, conjugation
Topic area IV: «Leben und arbeiten in der Schweiz» (live and work in Switzerland)
• money
• food
• shopping
• colours
• grammar: jobs, nationalities, prepositions
