Lernziele:

The students learn the fundamentals of technologies and the energy-efficient design of the building envelope and building system technologies in terms of generators, storages, distribution system and emission system components. This also includes the relevant standards, regulations and certification schemes and design and certification software tools applied in the construction sector.

 

Students will be capable to

  • describe the energy significance and potential of the existing Swiss building stock
  • accomplish energy and moisture protection verifications for buildings
  • characterize technologies used for space heating, domestic hot water, ventilation and space cooling/air conditioning in terms of application and advantages/disadvantages
  • design and evaluate building technology components and perform comparisons of variants
  • evaluate technology solutions for buildings technically, economically and ecologically
  • explain standards, regulations and verification procedures

Building physics

  • Boundary conditions for the building operation (climate, standard uses etc.)
  • Thermal comfort requirements
  • Winter heat protection and related calculations and characteristics of the building envelope (thermal transmittance (U-value), Thermal bridges, Solar transmittance and gains (g-value), heat capacity etc.)
  • Summer heat protection and related calculations and characteristics of the building envelope (shading, daylighting, internal loads, ventilation, freecooling)
  • Moisture protection at the construction component surface and in the construction
  • Energy-efficient and innovative building envelope technologies
  • Respective legal boundary conditions by building regulation, ordinances and certification schemes

  • Technology overview for space heating, domestic hot water, ventilation and cooling/air conditioning technologies
  • Procedures for component design for heat generators, storage, distribution and emission systems
  • Technical and economic assessment of technologies and comparison of system solutions
  • Application of design and assessment tools for the respective technologies
  • Respective legal boundary conditions and efficiency requirements by building regulation, ordinances and certification schemes
  • Development trends and innovations of the technologies for different building services
  • Excursion with the building designer to an innovative building
